I’m proud to have worked on these and countless other projects, each affording a different variety of creativity and communication.

Writing

For examples of my creative and personal writing, please check out my blog.

Improve Security Posture in the Federal Government

For this Atlassian blog, I wrote directly for the federal audience, considering their unique needs for security and compliance. Understanding their need to modernize security practices without compromising their strict practices, I developed this content to provide top-of-funnel knowledge about Atlassian’s security advantages.

Team Tour: Government 2022

This Atlassian blog offers a succinct overview of some featured speakers from their 2022 public sector symposium. In developing this content, I was careful to balance speakers across topics and representing both the public and private sector.

Care despair: What health insurance literacy means for public health

Though PRC’s blog posts typically emphasize a “how to” tone, this article from fall 2019 takes a stronger social stance. I combined results from our annual National Consumer Study with research about health literacy to create a post which appeals to both our community health and marketing audiences.

Up a Tree

In this summer 2019 PRC blog post, I discuss my own lessons in corporate team building, paired with surprising facts about employee attitudes toward teamwork and a plug for our organization’s bi-annual summit. This was a fun way to combine storytelling with research and offers small insight into my little-known fear of heights.

Under Construction

Under Construction is a winter 2019 blog post I wrote for PRC as response to a client asking for tips about communicating hospital construction to patients. It’s succinct, has enough narrative to be interesting, and written to be easy for hospital administrators to skim.

What could i have done differently?

I wrote this blog in the fall of 2018 after learning about the difficulties surrounding the language in healthcare satisfaction surveys. My organization hoped to offer rationale behind why surveys are worded the way they are.

Response Rates Myths and Misconceptions

This downloadable content aims to answer some of the more complicated statistical misunderstandings behind response rates. This was written to be as understandable as possible, and I worked with our graphic artist to ensure an approachable, digestible layout.

Peace corps to Princeton

This piece, which I wrote in the spring of 2016 for Princeton University's Woodrow Wilson School of Public and International Affairs, neatly compiles a series of interviews with Peace Corps graduates now studying at Princeton. I very much enjoy conducting interviews and this article offered great opportunity to speak with individuals who have experienced tremendous adventure.

Photography

As a learning photographer, I’ve become fascinated by how I can capture the expressions and emotions I typically use words to paint. Photographing people, pets, and passions opens a new realm of creativity I’m excited to explore. View a sample gallery here.

Podcast

In fall 2018, I pitched the idea of a healthcare podcast that would give behind the scenes healthcare workers the chance to share their stories. This first episode aired January 2019 and we have successfully produced an episode each month this year. In addition to giving me the unique opportunity to give a voice to those who may not otherwise have the chance to tell their healthcare story, this podcast has also taught me innumerable lessons about the healthcare industry.

You can stream episodes on the linked pages, or follow, subscribe, and download on your favorite podcast app.

Season 2 E1

The first episode of the second season featured an interview with Dr. Trevor Turner, a brilliant orthopedic physician who blew me away with his work on orthobiologics, re-purposing NASA moon dust lasers, and 3D printing sustainable housing for those impacted by natural disasters.

Season 1 E7

The seventh episode of Mondays with Mel is also quite special to me. I interviewed Patient Advocate D’Anna Holmes, who gave me a peek into her life as a POP, parent of patient. D’Anna has dedicated her life to advocating for patient rights and helping caregivers to set their subconscious bias aside. I was fascinated to discover how prevalent bias can be in healthcare, as well as the multiple ways this impacts how organizations treat their patients.

Season 1 E1

The first episode started the series strong and shares my conversation with Jim Sifuentes, Senior Vice President of Mission and Community Development at Saint Anthony Hospital in Chicago. We discuss the Chicago community health, the close relationship Saint Anthony Hospital has with their neighbors and community partners to impact health, and the challenges his organization has overcome to improve health and access in the Southside of Chicago.

Video

Tasked with creating a video which captured the innovative work done at PRC, I worked with my brilliant friend and co-worker, Isaiah Dominguez on this video. I wrote and directed the voice-over to match his video, and I’m very proud of how we managed to align both imagery and poetry with the values of our organization.
